In Real Life

Everybody wants to be their own boss these days – until they realize how much time, hard work, and commitment  it really takes.

You see, I’ve come to realize that there’s a fine line between being an Entrepreneur, and being a Dreamer.

Don’t get me wrong….I’m that one encouraging friend, who’s quick to say “go after your dreams”, no matter how far-fetched… but only if you believe in whatever it is 110%, and are unconditionally ready for the tornado that comes along with it.

Thanks to the growing entrepreneurial trend, I’ve seen one too many [dreamer], get sucked into delusions of grandeur, only to end up feeling defeated and confused.

Surely, the evolution of social media has afforded this generation a wave of opportunities that have never before been accessible. However, this evolution has also facilitated a slew of digital facades, accompanied by copious amounts of covetousness MAJOR!

When did bragging rights become the motive?!!! #SMH

alisha-ricki-scrolling-instagram

As we spend prime procrastination hours scrolling through our Instagram feeds, we’re often presented with visuals of lavish lifestyles and exotic trips . It’s no secret that most of these images are posted by seemingly successful entrepreneurs, whom many aspire to resemble. Ohhh, but wait! A wise man once said, “Don’t Judge a book by its cover” 📕.

Let’s keep it 💯! It is very rare that we as humans, delight in showcasing our personal struggles for all the world to see and judge – super unlikely. People seem to forget that Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram…all these platforms house carefully selected feeds, that usually allude to lifestyles much different from what goes on in real life. People may choose to show themselves living it up in Ibiza – while in reality, you haven’t a clue how many sleepless nights, hungry days, and maybe even homeless months they had to endure to get there.

That being said, I urge anyone who wants to be a business owner, to deeply think about the reason behind that choice. The ‘why’ is actually what separates entrepreneurs from dreamers – if your ‘why’ is fucked up, everything else will be too. The ‘why’ is what will keep you going even when everything looks hopeless, and gratification might as well be your long lost imaginary friend 😹. All jokes aside though…. Money, image, bragging rights👈🏽 any of those ‘whys’ will get you a first class ticket to failure FAST.

So before you spend time scheming on a new venture, be all the way REAL with yourself on this one! You say you want to win; but how bad do you want it? Is your ‘why’ in check? Are you fully prepared to relentlessly ‘boss up’?
